Android v7.0 Nougat for Moto Z and Moto Z Force

The Moto Z and Moto Z Force are officially getting an updated from Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow to Android v7.0 Nougat this week, Motorolla confirmed the global release of it. These two will be the first Motorolla smartphones receiving the Android v7.0 Nougat. The Moto Z and Moto Z Force aren’t as popular as their rivals regard their high specifications, the people who bought them are pretty lucky because as we said, this two are the first Motorolla smartphones that are getting the update.

About the update

The Android 7.0 Nougat wireless has a size of 1.58GB and it can be prompted manually by going into Settings, then About Phone, then Software updates. Users can also be advised to download the update if the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and it’s charged to at least 50% power.

This update brings new features as Daydream compatibility, split-screen and the addition of Vulkan graphic API which brings more performance and better graphics than OpenGL ES, but will we get into those later. It also brings some new interface changes as Bundled notifications that as the name suggest lets you expand a bunch of notifications combined into a simplified notification message, More personalization, and accessibility, adding a new toolbar that you can customize by adding, removing, or changing tools positions. They also added a new Data economizer that will reduce the background data usage to help us save some of it.

For those who don’t know what Daydream is…

Daydream is a Google platform for mobile virtual reality (VR), we can say that is the mobile version of Oculus Rift, this platform aims to deliver immersive and high-quality experiences. Being the Daydream compatibility one of the main features we can say that the fact this two (Moto Z and Moto Z Force) are on the not so big compatibility list of devices, it’s quite an honor.

“These are the first smartphones from another manufacturer to be recognized by Google as Daydream-ready devices — a distinction given to phones that have been certified for the Daydream platform and are built for VR with high-resolution displays, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking.” Motorola points out.

And I must say that if you want completely enjoy the Daydream platform, you’ll need to get Google‘s Daydream view headset with his controller, is available at the Google store for a price of $79.

Split-screen feature

The split-screen from Android v7.0 Nougat is a new way to multitasking, also a big upgrade to Android OS making it faster and more productive. You can access to it by tapping on the multitask button in the navigation bar so we can see recently launched apps and then drag the app you want to use the split-screen with to the top and dropping it into the box that says “Drag here to use split-screen.” once the first app is in place, you simply must choose the second app below, then those two apps will be live on top of each other, and to quit split-screen you drag the black bar to the top of the screen.

The Vulkan graphic API

Vulkan is a graphical multiplatform API for the development of apps with 3D graphics announced the first time at GDC 2015 by Khronos Group. This new graphic library will allow games and 3D render to offer a better quality with the same hardware, Vulkan is much more efficient with modern GPUs, taking advantage of the multiple threads to avoid bottlenecks, processor saturation, and excessive energy consumption. You will notice the better performance on games that will show better graphics, with new effects, illumination, particles, and much more that we only could see on consoles or PC.
